Aesthetics Obsession
This text is closely related to the one on the "Fruitiger Aero" post, which can be seen here. Social media, but also image and video based media in general, as it exists right now in the world has lead to people becoming obsessed with the aesthetics of things rather than the things itself. One example is "Frutiger Aero", which is merely an aesthetic without any substance behind it. The people obsessed with it don't care about any deeper-going aspects of the thing they aesthetisize, as for them the appearance is everything.
Looksmaxxing is conceptually similar, since it causes an obsession with appearance above all, suggesting, too, that aesthetics are above all other attributes of a person.
This in particular comes from the medium those trends originate from. Looksmaxxing and Frutiger Aero would have a much harder time to proliferate if it wasn't for social media, since those platforms are based on images and videos. Arguably, those things spread, because you need flashy images, images that attract people, and make people want more of it. This isn't particularly new or distinct, but there is even more emphasis on aesthetics than they were on TV, and that was already a huge leap from radio and text.
On the other end of the extremes regarding aesthetics are Linux programs and software aligned with the Unix philosophy. The free software people, in particular those that write terminal programs, disregard all aesthetics, and only care for functionality. Seemingly they don't care about having something nice to look at, even if it would make working with the program more enjoyable. Of course this doesn't account for Linux ricers, which are probably the majority compared to those that write such software.
