Normally I
don't engage in holy wars and I think it's eroding Internet forums, but
this is my space, so let me have my vices, okay?

That is to say, don't expect this to be neutral and unbiased review.

Common Lisp

<3 <3 <3
CL is what every programming language should be. RMS once said that you
don't know what an elegant language is if you haven't tried CL, and I'd
reduce that claim to just CL. Whilst Scheme is too simple for its own
good, or at least when you actually want to make something and not just
jerk over your language in academia, CL is really the sweetspot for a
language that is very elegant and beautiful in a mathematical
way. You've heard this already a thousand times, so I merely urge you
to try it out and judge for yourself. On that note, even though CL is
very complex and compilers like SBCL compare to C compilers in
complexity, the core principles are still very simple. Everything is a
list and as such the compiler will just evaluate lists, which makes the
syntax more pseudocode-like and easier to parse for both the programmer
and the compiler. The macros are a very powerful feature of the language
and they cannot be compared to compared to #define macros in C, not only
because they are so much more powerful, but also because they are not
just an afterthought and something that results in ugly hacks, like with

Wolpertinger

The Wolpertinger is a Bavarian folklore creature as a common trope in
jokes between hunters and wanderers. According to the myth it is a hare
with deer horns, duck wings, or duck feet and wolf teeth, depending on
who you ask.

Hunters would tell their drunk and gullible friends about this creature
and lure them into going for a hunt of a Wolpertinger. Of course, it
didn't exist, and as such they waited for a long time, until the joke
was resolved.

ALGOLites

ALGOL is probably the most influential programming language ever and
much to the demise of alternative computing models, most shitflinging
gay holy wars fought among people interested in computers are just
people arguing which flavor of ALGOL they prefer over another and not
actually discussions of different models of how to do computing. The
ALGOLites won; the IBM PC, alias the PDP-11, alias the C-machine, alias
the ALGOL-machine is the universal standard for almost every current day
computer and anybody who doesn't like it has to adjust to the
ALGOLites. Although still not as to such an extreme degree, people who
say "computer architecture" mean the architecture of the ALGOL machines,
the same way they say "computer architecture" to mean Von Neumann
architecture. Non-ALGOL ways of computing are so sparse and fringe that
most people who program computers probably never heard of FORTH or Lisp
– that is to say the average computer scientist or professional
software engineer, as with hobbyists you might be luckier – and never
came in contact with a machine that wasn't optimized for ALGOL-likes.

Culture and Adam Lanza

Adam Lanza has been interesting to me for a while now and in spite of
his elementary school shooting (see Sandy Hook shooting )for which he became known for for
most people, there is also a more interesting aspect of his person which
is his philosophy and general thoughts he had. It's called "thoughts", because
those aren't reviews in any sense of the word, it's just some thoughts I
had when watching.

Kamichu

Very nice anime. You have to watch it to get what's so nice about it,
but in essence it's the overall atmosphere of a little town with all
peaceful people with some supernatural things happening. Yurie is also
very cute. They have a completely twisted
idea of humility and arrogance wherein they think everybody who says he
is good at something is just an arrogant asshole and probably is not
even as good as he claims. Children are being taught to live in denial
about their own skills and talents and are being manipulated into this
fake humility. They try to make it relative to make it look absurd – as
a cheap rhetorical trick – and say things like "I'm not the best in the
world", or "There are better people than me" completely disregarding
that being good at something doesn't mean to be the world's best.
This tendency for having an inferiority complex that Kaczynski noted
leftists to have is a thing that almost all oversocialized people
have. Even if they are the best person they know in some area they will
still claim that they aren't very good. To a degree this is also
performantive; a lot of those people probably are self-aware about their
abilities and will deny them regardless in fear of being seen as
arrogant.

Defeatism

Defeatism is a word conceptually very similar to procrastination whereas
it is mainly used by slavemaster to evoke a feeling of guilt in the
slaves to not be obsessing every second of your life with inane
bullshit. Just like people who say "procrastination" is a problem use it
as a sly way to make you feel bad for not doing slavery, people who are
obsessed with some retarded fights are trying to make you feel bad for
not partaking in their fights.

Programming Style

Hot take: For the vast majority of questions in regards to programming
formatting one can deduce the best style objectively and there is not much
ambiquity in regards what the best style is. It is noteworthy that an identity is a purely social thing; people
living in social isolation tend to have less identity than those with a rich
social life, as such the less social you are, the less value an identity has for
you.

The more you have of an identity, the more rules you have to abide by, as seen
on anonymous message boards, where people have no hard-coded identity, and just
let their ideas and thoughts flow (at least ideally), and the polar opposite being
social media, wherein people have very elaborate identities, and thus also abide
by more rules.

On Reality

I fucking hate reality. Everywhere you go there are ads, making sure you don't miss out
of the newest product to consume. Most people accept the pretense that
ads are just an postulate of life, which one just has to live with -
mind you, the almost a half of Internet users don't have an adblocker
installed, and that obviously only accounts for those ads, that can be
blocked with regular adblockers, bought articles and video sponsorships
get through anyway, as do shill posts on messageboards. Ads are mostly
made by groups of malicious, studied psychologists, whose whole job is
to abuse the mind of people for so long that they feel like their life
is worse, because they have not consumed a certain product. In
children's TV there is advertisements of children having fun with
friends, having a loving family, and, most importantly, only being happy
because they bought a certain product. Similarly, advertisements for old
people emphasize a caring family, who wouldn't let rot their elders in a
nursery home isolated from the world, only sitting in front of a TV,
being manipulated by ads. The young people are on the Internet, and so
are the ads, and they are even more manipulative and harder to avoid
than those in the train, supermarket, or TV. A lot of modern ads are
based on fears that people developed. "Your data is being stolen by
supergiga-h4xx0rgs and the CIA, if you don't buy a N*rdVPN or Expr*ssVPN
subscription", as if "leaking" an IP address would literally kill
you. The same applies for cloud-based password managers, those "data
deletion services", less commonly "anti-viruses", and other scams, that
solely rely on people being frightened by the consequences of not buying
a certain product, and not understanding the nature of the technology
that those products work with. While the the more conservative ads try to instill a
perceived lack in something in you, the more disgusting ads work on the
fear of the people. "If you don't buy THIS PRODUCT, CONSEQUENCES will
happen". Those people making those ads are subhuman scum and should be
held responsible for the abuse they perform on everyone, most of it
completely involuntarily.

Algorithm Collection

Feel free to use them for whatever you want.
Repo: https://github.com/kotorifan/algorithm-collection

Checksums

Adler32

;; It seems to be particularly popular
around university students – Bielefeld is a university city – who see
it as a kind of inside joke. It originates from some guy who
accidentally said that it doesn't exist.

The people believing in this theory are arguably very annoying, albeit
sometimes funny.

Card Games

Solitaire (or Patience)

Solitaire is a card game played with a 52-card French card deck without
jokers, usually with smaller-sized cards to save space on the table. There are dozens of variants
with the most popular being Klondike, which got, as far as I know, email
me if I'm wrong, popularized by Windows including Klondike as the
default variant in its Solitaire game. Too bad it was really just a pretentious waste of space and
not worth saving. Instead of elaborating on why data hoarders cannot
cope with their own mortality or some shit like that, I try to provide
some helpful information instead.

Data hoarding tips

Make regular backups. If you can, try to make a cron job to run a
shell script that runs rsync every week or so and saves the data to
another storage medium.

Use universal, free, and open formats/codecs. This makes it easier to
make it use your files on different operating systems and prevents you
from DRM holding your own data hostage.

Use a filesystem that works on all the different OSes you need, or
what's even better, use NAS where filesystems are irrelevant

Get everything where it's feasible as physical media. Books in
particular, because those are easier to read with a physical copy and
don't depend on electricity. Try to be as low-tech as possible for the
data in question. Be careful to not buy DVDs or Blurays with DRM, in
that case digital media is preferable.

Similar to how you should stay as low tech as possible, try to use as
simple formats as possible. Plain text instead of PDF, for instance.
If it's not available as such, convert it with pandoc or ffmpeg. This
makes the files accessible on simpler devices too.

In many cases sorting your files can be automated by querying the
metadata with a script (Python and Perl have a bunch of libraries for
various file formats like mp3 or flac to use)

On Ogg Vorbis and Plain Text

For music and audio books ogg vorbis is by far the best format. It's
one of the most effecient (size/content) audio formats, if done
correctly it is indistingushible from a good mp3 (lossless is just
wasting space for no good reason), it is free and open and widely
available on every music player you might want. I highly recommend you
use it. Bandcamp offers ogg vorbis too, unfortunately not as much
Slsk, but they have a lot of flacs, which you can convert without
quality loss.

Similarly, plain text is most of the time more than enough. For
ordinary books you don't need to have a pdf or ebup. Plain text can be
read on any device ever, while having the best (size/content)
ratio. Plain text is beautiful and simple, pdf is ugly and
complex. You can convert most of your pdfs to plain text with pandoc
or a similar tool and edit it afterwards if needed.

Where to get data to hoard

Soulseek is good for music (and sometimes also video game ROMs!)

Consider USENET (see my guide on here)

Private trackers (see
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Private_trackers)

Books: Annas-archive, Library Genesis+ (the old Libgen is basically
dead, Libgen+ replaces it), Z-Library, pdfdrive, Project Gutenberg,
Liber3, OpenLibrary, MemoryOfTheWorldLibrary

IRC XDCC (#nibl on Rizon for anime), Doujinstyle for otaku music

https://kiwix.org/en/ for Wikis, albeit a lot of Mediawiki
instances have a way of downloading the whole wiki already. It is interesting, because it
is purely operated by hobbyists and has no commercial aspect to it, much unlike
the Internet. The "Zone Mail Hour" is certain time frame, where FidoNet node
must be available for accepting mail; the time when this happens depends on the
region of the node. FidoNet is also much more personal than the Internet or
Usenet, wherein you're ought to use your real name and location while being a
node. Of course you can use a name, which looks like a real name, but isn't, the
same way you can use a fake name in a mailing list with such a policy, however
it is not the expected thing to do.

Forth

Forth, sometimes also FORTH, is a programming language known for exceptional
simplicity and beauty, even when compared to the various dialects of Lisp. It is stack-based, untyped, and uses RPN.

The "stack-based" part means that the whole experience programming in Forth is
about manipulating a stack, and you do such with a small set of "words", think
language elements that you can extend yourself. The word is used by the same people, who are
into the "IndieWeb" and adjacent cancers. Instead of having an actual
understanding what made the old Internet good, they resort to the most
superficial crap possible, the graphic design of the time. Those people
don't understand that there was something deeper, more profound about
the old Internet, which made it in every way superior, as for instance
much less censorship, much less centralization, no DRM, implementable
standards, generally more openness and freedom, self-written software
instead of depending on the same softwares everyone else does, and a lot
more. The Fruitniggers don't get this, they think the Windows 7
startmenu's design and "Under Construction"-Gifs on personal websites
were why it was good, as they don't look deeper, and only focus on
shallow aesthetics. This is no hyperbole, because it is true already: If
you showed those people some surveillancecattle, ultra-giga-censored,
proprietary rapeware Internet thing, BUUUUT it would have the Windows 7 boot-up
sound, the design of the Nintendo DS's game menu, and the Unreal
Turnament OST playing in the background, they would gladly accept it, as
they already do with all those Indieweb "webrings" and "communities"
that are only available on Discord, require you to run Javascript, and
will ban you if you don't sacrifice your first born child to some
tranny.

Gifted Kid Burnout

The so-called "Gifted kid burnout" is an narcissistic joke-made-identity
Tiktok-ers and Redditors adopt, who think the reason why they do is
worse in their job or school is not because they aren't as smart as
their narcissistic self-image, but rather because they have some sort
serious problem, namely "gifted kid burnout". This goes hand in hand
with this self-image of "smart, but lazy", implying that if they wanted
to they could become the next Gauß or Euler, but they just don't want
to…m'kay? additional texture encouraged, no artificial
limitations

no multiplayer, this would be too difficult, and would suck, since you
would need to rely on the server for in sincere emotions, art, creations,
friendships, other relationships between humans, thinking, or anything
else really? Everything is meant as a fucking joke, and has to be
covered in one or multiple layers of irony.

It's disgusting and pathetic, because it means nobody can deal with real
emotions or thoughts anymore, as those would be too hurtful or make
onself too vulnerable. Excessive use of irony is a sign of weakness, and
the epitome of our times. Ironically, unlike what those retards with
their excessive usage of irony want you to believe, they do it because
they care about what other people think about them to the point that
they just subtly lie about what they intend (irony), because they are
too afraid how their fellow retards react.
Being honest, upfront, caring, and genuine is considered a symptom of Autism, supposedly, as it's apparently a mental disorder to care about things and be honest about that.
This also reflects in how those irony-obsessed faggots see other people - also as jokes.

List of Conlangs

Herein I want to make a little list of interesting conlangs (once I feel like doing something like this, which might be soon, or in some time. It was used mostly in the 1990s in Germany by Atari-Hobbyists. These
days it is not used by anyone but a few nostalgic old men yearning for the good
ol' days to come back. The users of the network had to use their real name, and
doing otherwise was more or less shunned. Messages were sent between 3:00 and
4:00 in the morning, not unlike to FidoNet. MausNet was born out of the
frustration with other Mailbox networks, with those being too clunkly and
inconvenient to use.

Miscallenous Rants

Palantir

Reading music: Narcissu 1 Soundtrack - The Emerald Sea

Don't get me wrong, I don't care about all this political fuss surrounding this,
however I'm tangentially interested in mass surveillance and the developments
surrounding it, and I found it really fascinating how the discussion in Germany
in regards this issue is "Should we use this powerful and American software
or make our own" and not "Should we surveill every citizen in some grand program
with a database containing every possible information about every possible
person". It's the same way nobody "insane" actually feels like an insane
person with insane thoughts, they just assume what they believe is
right, and likewise you don't feel like there is something off or wrong
about your lived experience when you're hallucinating.

On Jobs

This might seem obvious to some, but for me it's a major source of
frustration with people when talking about work or jobs, that they
think the way work culture developed after the war somehow is
indicative of how it always was and always will be, and everyone,
who thinks that the status quo as of now is sick and rotten, merely
wasn't working enough to truly understand why this culture of work is
tolerable, or even good.

Originality

WIP

OS-tan fallacy

OS-tan fallacy is a kind of fallacy that happens when you assume an OS
to resememble its OS-tan.

Example

Do you see this picture? You need to do slavery, but instead you decide to
pet your cat? DUDE, that's procrastination of the worst kind, even. This word in
particular did not evolve naturally and was pushed heavily on dissocial media
"platforms", and has since then been in use by mostly Millenials and Zoomers,
who make Youtube/Tiktok tutorials on how to best avoid having fun and do
something "productive". It's such a pityful pursuit and it's sad how many people
actually believe in this crap. I'm not saying you shouldn't create or work on
something at all, but you should do so when you want and how you want, not be
pressured into it by others and yourself. It's one of those words where the mere
usage of the word already speaks volumes and is a clear sign of somebody being
niggercattle. People get depressed over this and think they are a failure if
they "procrastinate" too much, which is all wanted by the system in place to
make you work until you die of exhaustion. Like everything bad in this world,
this has also become an industry of its own, and people make cashmoney telling
other people how they can procrastinate less, which probably also counts as
procrastination or something.

Psychiatry

I have written this in anger at the people, who suggest you to get
"professional help" as a way to not deal with mentally ill people. Unlike what certain websites try to tell
you, you don't need any additional tools or software other than Wine
itself, although it might work better with Steam's Proton. The game
works well enough with standard Wine; just run the setup executable
through it and follow through the installation process. The game itself
runs fine, even on old hardware, even though it does have some bugs,
that might or might not be similar on Windows: 1. All my desktop icons
on Xfce4 reorder themselves when starting the game. 2. When starting the
game, it starts glitching a bit, but once the first logo appears, this
doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Suckless

Suckless is a cargo cult emphasizing what they call "simplicity", "unix
philosophy", and "minimalism". In practice this minimalism looks like
them writing the most trivial program imaginable and then exclaiming how
fucking awesome their code is for being aligned with all their ideas how
software should be. Their code is purposefully undocumented and
uncommented, which only works since their code base is usually a few
thousand lines. Suckless also attempted to make multiple Suckless Linux
distributions, among them one that had everything statically linked
resulting in an OS broken by design. Further, they think software peaked
in the 70s and call everything that isn't structured like Unix System V
bloat or something. It's remarkable how they cannot imagine a future
where software doesn't adhere to some philosophy from almost half a
century ago, as if that was the best thing since sliced bread and
couldn't possibly be improved upon or updated (Note: I'm myself against
update culture, but there's a difference between update culture and not
using software written for ancient mainframes). Surely, if you complete
the temperature converter exercise in the "The C Programming Language"
book enough times, you will truly understand how great software ought to
be, but I digress. It's true, if all programs you know are cat, sed, and
cut, then there's not a point in rethinking your ways, but if you want
something like Sony Vegas or IDA Pro, the Unix philosophy doesn't scale
well and is not really applicable to such programs at all. Those are
mostly points from the "unix philosophy" crowd, that a lot of suckless
people subscribe ideologically speaking, but there's more. Their
software is configured through source code, since they don't want any
filthy nocoders even using their software, Whether you like this
gatekeeping measure is up to you, I think it's good that one doesn't
have to learn yet another configuration file syntax, but then again,
most configuration files formats are more or less intuitive and require
little reading.

Text editors

This page is dedicated to some text editors and my experience with them.

Acme

I don't remember much from fiddling around with Acme. We will go over each technique and
demonstrate that only a minimal number of operatives can be used to eventually
and effectively gain a control of a 'uncontrolled forum.'

Technique #1 - 'FORUM SLIDING'

If a very sensitive posting of a critical nature has been posted on a forum - it
can be quickly removed from public view by 'forum sliding.' In this technique a
number of unrelated posts are quietly prepositioned on the forum and allowed to
'age.' Each of these misdirectional forum postings can then be called upon at
will to trigger a 'forum slide.' The second requirement is that several fake
accounts exist, which can be called upon, to ensure that this technique is not
exposed to the public. To trigger a 'forum slide' and 'flush' the critical post
out of public view it is simply a matter of logging into each account both real
and fake and then 'replying' to prepositined postings with a simple 1 or 2 line
comment. This brings the unrelated postings to the top of the forum list, and
the critical posting 'slides' down the front page, and quickly out of public
view. Although it is difficult or impossible to censor the posting it is now
lost in a sea of unrelated and unuseful postings. By this means it becomes
effective to keep the readers of the forum reading unrelated and non-issue
items.

Usenet

The Usenet is a decentralized communications network built on top of the
NNTP, which has been around for practically 5ever. These days the Usenet
faded into obscurity, while it used to be the biggest network of its
kind way back in the 80s and is of "cultural" significance for what
would later become Internet culture, netiquette, and vocabulary. To read
Usenet posts you need a newsreader and a Usenet provider, both of which
can be obtained at no cost for the most part. The various newsgroups,
think the places where the actual communication is facilitated, are
sorted into various hierarchies (the major ones: comp.*, humanities.*,
misc.*, news.*, alt.*, rec.*, sci.*, soc.*, talk.*, and additionally you
got regional ones like es.*, japan.*, de.*, or other specific ones) each
having a particular topic or theme to it

Waifu

A "waifu" is a fictional character you feel a deep emotional connection
to. The concept of forming parasocial relationships with fictional
characters has been around since almost as long as fiction and fantasy
has been around. The word has different meanings depending on whoever
you ask - more mainstream-inclined people think that the word "Waifu"
means just any anime girl you like, and think of it in an
irony-poisened, insincere way, doing it as a big joke, either because they
don't know better, or because they would have to present them as
vulnerable, living in fright what their peers would think, and being
afraid as being seen as a weirdo. Those people usually also use the word
in plural form, implying they don't care about the concept at all, and
just see it as quirky synonym for "anime girl". People who take waifu
love more seriously are usually found on 4/a/, Wizchan, or Tohno-chan.

Whistleblowers

So-called "whistleblowers" are an invention of the privacy/anonymity/security software projects like Tor, Tails, QubeOS, Whonix, some VPNs, and a lot, lot more to deceive people into thinking that they are more virtuous than they really are.
Instead of arguing that privacy and anonymity are good for everyone, and everyone should be able to use the Internet in a privacy-preserving manner, they make up some magical heroes, which protect democracy of all things, to justify their existence.
They say things like "Tor helps whistleblowers stay anonymous and reveal secrets about abusive governments" and such, however, the problem herewith is that whistleblowers practically don't exist.
In proportion to all the marketing that advertises those things as for "whistleblowers", they are such a tiny minority that it is just a plain lie that they make it for them.
They try to uphold this lie, however, because it makes them look better, and makes them seem like they do something very noble.
To be fair, most of this "whistleblower" LARP is done by third-parties, who promote those projects on their own, but those projects certainly play a role in this marketing being done the way it is.
They should just be honest and say they make those softwares for the common man, the average Joe, and not some magical democracy-saving heroes, of which basically none exist in comparison to all the other users.

Wikipedia

Bla bla bla bla, everyone knows why it sucks and that it sucks. Just watch some Youtube video with some
living soyjak on the thumbnail and some scam sponsorship on why
Wikipedia does indeed suck.
