Hate The Player, Not The Game
1. Hate The Player, Not The Game
People have agency in their lives and choose their behavior. It is true that personality traits, possible circumstances, and the environment is a great influence, however this is about people choosing the wrong decisions within their realm of possibility and then acting as if they have nothing to do with their consequences.
„Don't hate the player, hate the game“ is purposefully misleading people into avoiding practical and pragmatic solutions to real problems instead of obsessing over abstract concepts. You can read as many books on Hegelian meta-physics as you want, and maybe there is some truth to it, but in the end you cannot abolish „capitalism“ or „liberalism“, because you cannot abolish an abstract concept in your head, you can do something about the exact structure that constitutes those concepts in the real world. If you get a fine for torrenting, it is not „intellectual property“ that is responsible for the fine, but a net of laywers and judges that actively decided to act the way the act and fuck with you. Thus, „abolishing Intellectual Property“ means nothing and is just a cope for a lack of power. People who prefer this „Don't hate the player, hate the game“ type of thinking to do this to prop up a feeling of powerlessness and slyly avoid any pragamtic solutions that might stem from thinking about the problem in a pragamtic way. If you knew what exactly your problem is, that is a thing in the real world and not an abstract concept in your head, you could do actually something about it, such as concrete laws or changes.
Some might say that my view of things stems from an inability to think in abstract concepts. This is not true. My point is that abstract concepts do have a meaning and are not useless – abstract thinking obviously is very important and all of that – but they are specifically useless for pragmatic solutions. „Intellectual Property“ only exists in your head, and, even though it is a description of processes in the real world, it is detached from those real world processes, and you have to do something against the real world processes and not their description.
As you might have gusses, almost all shit talking on this website is targeted at certain people who do certain things and not their descriptions in form of abstract concepts. Abstract concepts are useful and it makes sense to think in them, but actions in this world are done by nature and man, and not by concepts.
