Tinkertranny

Originally this would have been a thread on `/g/`, but I suspect all the replies would be shills and bots and bad faith actors, so I'm trying to vent here instead. I did so in the Miscalleneous Rants segment of the website already, but I want to elaborate and make it a more coherent piece.

`/g/` is a board that has been dear to my heart for a while, since I more or less grew up there. It was already shit when I joined, but every day it gets a little bit worse, so it was still noticeable. I was also around on the original Nanochan's `/g/` while that was around, that is used to my true home board, but I got disinterest in the whole shtick surrounding privacy and anonymity, and it died, so I'm left with 4chan's `/g/`. `/g/` is my home on the Internet and therefor I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm attached to this board, and its demise makes me genuinely sad.

The board can be divided into two types: manipulative and bad faith actors and retards who adapt to their spam. The title of this page is „tinkertranny“, because this term combines everything wrong with `/g/`. First, it is trying to subvert the culture of the board against tinkering with, hacking, playing around, learning about, and doing stuff with computers. Tinkering is almost exclusively used as an insult on nu-`/g/`. They want you to think that being curious and interested in computers is a bad thing. The tranny part is relevant, because nu-`/g/` is consisting of „based and redpilled“ Anti-NPCs who want to fit in at any cost, so when a shill says a technology is for trannies, it automatically means they have to avoid it. That's how easy those people are to trick. Same with incels, pajeets, and so on.

Examples:

• Programming for fun instead of using LLMs is for luddites and snailcats, you better use AI, if you don't want to be one.
• Linux is for tinkertrannies, you want to fit in and be based and redpilled, so better not use what the tinkertrannies use.
• Anonymity and privacy are for paedophiles, you don't want to be one, do you? Then stop using that technology.
• [Insert literally anything related to Indians here]
• You don't want to be an incel poorfag that women don't want to have sex with? Better use Apple products.

Those tricks are extremely effective and the culture of the board has shifted noticeably. Those anons are so up their own ass that they won't notice how they are being molded into the shape corpo shills want them to be.

It's hard to believe that `/g/` is a board for hobbyist programmers and sysadmins, considering how much they hate tinkering and learning. Or was, rather. Linux is not for you if you don't like tinkering and learning, so fuck off to the hole you came from. Programming is not for you if you don't like tinkering and learning, so what are you even doing here? The same applies to electronics, reverse engineering, and theoretical stuff. Get the fuck out!! Maybe those people would be better off on Instagram or Tiktok. I don't get what business you have on a hobbyist programmer board, if you don't have any curiosity about computers whatsoever, and feel threatened whenever somebody suggests you actually put effort into what you do.

This shit does make me disappointed in the board and the people on it. I'm aware that this is just shouting into the big void and I don't expect any changes. There used to be an anon that made daily threads about POSIX syscalls and he, also, went away, just as almost every other worthwhile poster.

Don't worry, I will leave the board one day too, because in the current state it just ruins my mood in the morning to even open it, and the little glimpses of hope on this board get less every week.
